This change is due in part to the anonymity that telehealth offers over in-person care. At Vault, we’ve found that a lot of men are more comfortable sharing what’s on their mind in a telemedicine appointment as opposed to an in-office visit. That’s not all-telehealth offers another surprising advantage: disclosure. As a result, providers are already seeing a significant increase in requests for men’s health televisits-which can have significant positive outcomes for both preventive and diagnostic care. An appointment that used to take half a day out of one’s schedule now takes a mere twenty-minutes. This means that there’s no longer an excuse to avoid seeking care. Telehealth removes many of the barriers of in-person visits, like taking time off of work, traveling to the office, or killing time in a waiting room. This hesitancy can have dire consequences, especially if a condition is time-sensitive. What’s worse, additional studies show that 80% of men would prefer to suffer from an ailment than seek medical help. Statistics reveal that 72% of men would rather do household chores, like washing dishes, vacuuming, or even cleaning the bathroom, instead of seeing a doctor. It's always been a struggle to get men to schedule medical appointments.

Digital health offers a host of additional benefits beyond decreasing the risk of exposure to illness. But in many ways, this shift has been a long time coming. The quarantines and restrictions imposed by Covid-19 pushed telehealth to the forefront of care.
